Frequently Asked Questions
Since we’re new to virtual events and you may be, too, here are answers to questions you might have:
Question: What is a virtual class?
Answer: A virtual class is interactive instruction over the internet. You need a device (computer, tablet, phone) with video and audio capabilities.
Question: How do virtual classes work?
Answer: You purchase a virtual class or classes, and we send you a receipt email. Within 3 weeks, you will have access to your Student Dashboard and the class page for each class you purchased. The class page will include your supply list and any pre-class prep. Closer to the event, the class page will also have the Zoom links. Access to the Dashboard will be available on December 3rd. You will be asked to do a virtual check-in online via Zoom with our staff.
Each class session is 2 hours.
Question: Why do I need to do the Virtual Check-in?
Answer: The Virtual Check-in helps the XRX staff make certain all students are comfortable with Zoom and how Stitches Expo At Home uses Zoom. Having everyone familiar with the format and the technology will help classes begin on time and run smoothly. Most of the support problems we have come from those students who do not check in with us virtually. People may know Zoom very well. But our site is relatively new and is always changing. So it’s very important that you join us sometime during one of the two student check-in sessions (as per the schedule on the main page). We will also email you a reminder of those sessions with Zoom links as we get closer to the event.
Question: What technology do I need to take a Stitches at Home class or event?
Answer: You need an internet-connected device (computer, tablet, or phone) with a camera and microphone and that supports the Zoom application.
Question: Can I register for Stitches at Home if I live outside the USA.
Answer: Yes, however, due to time and shipping constraints, kits will not be sent outside the USA.
Question: What time are the classes/events?
Answer: All times listed on the schedule and class descriptions are Central Standard Time. Please remember to adjust the times for your local time zone.
Question: Where are the virtual Market listings for this event?
Answer: A listing of exhibitors who have signed up is on the website. Click here to view them.
Question: How much is a Stitches Expo at Home Market Ticket and what do you get with that?
Answer: A Market ticket is $5. It gives you access to all the Market hours (as listed on the main Stitches Expo at Home page). The Market ticket also gets you into many extras including sponsor presentations, Teacher Features, the Pajama Party, the morning coffees, the Welcome event and the Show and Share Finale.
If you have purchased a class (or classes) your Market access is included with the class. You do not need to purchase a Stitches Expo at Home Market Ticket. You will also have access to all of the presentations and other sessions.
Question: What else should I know?
Answer: Besides the schedule on the main Stitches Expo at Home page, you should know the information on this page, and you should read the Online Etiquette page for Stitches Expo at Home.
Question: How many people are in a class?
Answer: Classes are limited to no more than 20 people because we want this to be an interactive experience between you, your classmates, and the instructor. If the class has a teaching duo, the limit may be raised to 25.
Question: Will we hard copies of the handouts?
Answer: No. That is a special thing we’re doing just for Stitches at Home. Stitches Expo at Home is a different animal. Class handouts need to be downloaded by you.
Question: Is closed captioning available?
Answer: We provide closed captioning for classes and special presentations. It may not be available for exhibitors in the STITCHES Expo at Home virtual Market. Click here to view the instructions.
Question: Can I record my class(es) for myself or will a recording of the class(es) be provided for me as part of my fees?
Answer: No, you are not permitted to record the class yourself. As part of our contracts with the instructors, these are live classes. Recording your classes using screen capture technology is prohibited.
Most teachers are allowing Stitches to record their classes. Those recordings will be available for an additional 14 days following the event and can be accessed through the View Class Page option on your Dashboard. Recordings are at the bottom of the class page and will be available the morning after the session is complete.
Question: I have an XRX, Inc. credit. How do I use it for a Stitches at Home class or event?
Answer: When you view your cart, enter your credit code in the the Apply Gift Card or Credit box under the class list. Click the Update Cart button to see the credit applied.
Question: What if I have a question or need help registering?
Answer: Questions can be emailed to [email protected]. Please include as much specific information as you can OR call us at 605.338.2450 during business hours (9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Central time, Monday thru Friday).
