Heritage Yarns - History In Your Hands

Hello fiber artists! I’m Farah Knudsen, founder of Knudsen Knits, a Black woman-owned yarn business based in Utah. I learned to knit nearly 40 years ago and loved it from the start. Along with a love of the craft grew a respect for the materials – particularly wool, and more specifically natural, non-superwash wool. I source my fleeces regionally and use fiber mills that are as regional as possible. My desire is to offer minimally processed yarns – not only merino based yarns but those created from heritage breeds found within the United States. By doing so, makers will have the opportunity to experience a wider range of wool characteristics and fabric possibilities and at the same time save lesser-known breeds from extinction.

At this Stitches event, I am offering a collection of American made yarns in both natural sheep colors and hand-dyed colors and some commercial bases that are also handdyed. I’ve created a couple of kits just for this event. There are also American sheep breeds tea towels – great as gifts for your yarnie friends or get one for yourself to use in the kitchen or have framed to hang in your craft room.

Visit my virtual booth to shop, learn about American sheep, and have fun.
