Today at 12:30 pm PST, Sandra Chandler is doing a special presentation called ‘Beautiful Quilts Made From Upcycled Denim Jeans‘.
No longer fit? Out of style? With holes you don’t want to mend? If this describes any jeans in your closet, Sandra will show you how to turn them into stunning and sturdy quilts.
She begins by deconstructing the jeans—a great stress-releaser—revealing the colors of wear. The varied shades of indigo bring a rich, timeless palette to the geometry of the patchwork Sandra does.
See the quilts. Hear how denim threads through her heritage. For Sandra, denim is so much more than fabric! There are still some open spots for this presentation. You can purchase your ticket to this event online or at the registration desk for $15.
At 7:30 pm PST Tonight… Stitches Makers’ Showcase
Better than street fashion! This is a showcase of what you sew, knit, crochet, weave, and wear. Join your Stitches classmates, fellow attendees, and teachers for an evening of fun! Bring your favorite creation, share it on stage, and see what incredible pieces others have made. The evening’s antics can never be predicted, but it’s always an unforgettable night! Let’s celebrate what being a maker is all about.
There are still some open spots for this event. You can purchase your ticket to this event online or at the registration desk for $25.
We have two special meetups today.
From 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm PST in Ballroom A7 in the Convention Center: BIPOC Meetup. Join us for a casual gathering of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color fiber artists. Sit and stitch, show off your marketplace finds, and make some new friends! No pre-registration required, but please respect that this meetup is for BIPOC members of the fiber community only.
From 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm PST in Ballroom A7 in the Convention Center: LGBTQIA+ Meetup. Join us for a casual gathering of LGBTQIA+ fiber artists. Sit and stitch, show off your marketplace finds, and make some new friends! No pre-registration required, but please respect that this meetup is for LGBTQIA+ members of the fiber community only.
These meetups are hosted by yelley (she/they), a knitter, crocheter, spinner, maker in the San Francisco Bay Area, working to promote diversity and inclusiveness in the fiber arts world. Her goal is to create safer and more accessible spaces for marginalized folx (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergent, Disabled, all kinds of marginalized folx!) through representation, visibility, and community building events. She lives in Alameda, California, with one of her partners, their very spoiled dog, and a ridiculously large stash of purple and rainbow yarn. Find her on Ravelry and Instagram @yelleyknits.
