The Playground is the heart of the Stitches Market! It’s a place to feel the pulse of what we consider our passion. And the red carpet is no accident; red is a sign of our love of crafting.
In a space that encourages Inspiration, Exploration, and Demonstration, The Playground plays host to artisans and crafters willing to share their work, skills, and advice.
Most of all, The Playground is a place to let the crafty child within you dream, experience…and yes, play!
During the Market, we will have lots of cool stuff happening in The Playground! Today we have some great programs…
We also have some wonderful in-booth demos scheduled for today…
Today at 1:00 pm PST, there is the BIPOC Meetup in Ballroom B in the Pasadena Convention Center. This is a casual gathering of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color fiber artists. Sit and stitch, show off your marketplace finds, and make some new friends! No pre-registration is required, but please respect that this meetup is for BIPOC members of the fiber community only.
This meetup is hosted by yelley (they/them), a knitter, crocheter, spinner, and maker in the San Francisco Bay Area, working to promote diversity and inclusiveness in the fiber arts world. Their goal is to create safer and more accessible spaces for marginalized folx (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergent, Disabled, all kinds of marginalized folx!) through representation, visibility, and community building events.
They live in Alameda, California, with one of their partners, their very spoiled dogs, and a ridiculously large stash of purple and rainbow yarn. Find them on Ravelry and Instagram @yelleyknits.
Tonight at 7:30 pm CST, the Stitches Makers’ Showcase—Better than street fashion! This is a showcase of what you sew, knit, crochet, weave, and wear. Join your Stitches classmates, fellow attendees, and teachers for an evening of fun! Bring your favorite creation, share it on stage, and see what incredible pieces others have made. The evening’s antics can never be predicted, but it’s always an unforgettable night! Let’s celebrate what being a maker is all about.

If you haven’t purchased your ticket for the Stitches SoCal 2022 Makers’ Showcase, they are available at the Student Registration Desk or online here.
Here is a quick recap of some of the things that happened yesterday…
Classes were in full swing yesterday. At this point most of the students have checked in and picked up their badges. Here are a few quick pix from some of the classrooms today.
We had more happy Market goers for the Friday at Stitches SoCal 2022 Market. Here are just a few pix from the Market on Friday (below).
The Stitches SoCal 2022 Fashion Show, last night, was incredible. Expertly styled by Rick Mondragon and emceed by Nathania Apple… what we saw on the runway was remarkable.
Here are a few quick shots I took with my phone during the show…
I know these are not the best-looking pictures in the world. An iPhone can only do so much. But fear not! Our photographer, Kellie Nuss, will be posting professional-looking images from the Fashion Show on our Facebook page within the next day. So please check those out.
The exhibitors were so generous with their prizes for the Fashion Show. We want to thank Alexandra, the Art of Yarn, della Q, Dizzy Blonde Studios, Fiberlady, Hands on Knitting Center, Jennifer Knits, L’Atelier, and The Yarn Dynamic.
If you are looking for a guide to the local restaurants, you can download a useful PDF created by the city called Food on Foot; A Guide to Walkable Dining Locations Near the Pasadena Convention Center here.
And because I’m very interested (and some of you might be), here is what Rick Mondragon will be wearing today.
Saturday, Rick will be wearing a Perry Ellis floral blazer with grey slacks, Calvin Klein plum v-neck merino sweater, and stingray cowboy boots… note the black rhinestone fly and butterfly pins.
We’ll be covering Rick’s clothes & shoes every morning throughout the show.
Here are today’s Market Highlights…
That’s it for now. Don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow morning with another update. In the meantime, please check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The hashtags we’ve seen used so far are #stitchessocal and #stitchessocal22.
I hope you have an amazing, memory-filled weekend!
All my best.
Benjamin Levisay (he/him)
CEO & Host of Stitches Events
