Good Morning! And welcome to the first day of Stitches SoCal 2022 and the first edition of the Stitches SoCal Morning Update.
The weather today in Pasadena, CA shows a projected high of 65° and a projected low of 45°.
The The Plume Air Quality Index shows an average of 41 AQI today.
Classes will run from 9:00 am–12:00 pm PST and 1:30 pm-4:30 pm PST. If you are taking classes today, here is a schedule with the room assignments for your convenience.
If you’re interested in seeing which classes may still have spots open, please check out our list of Stitches SoCal 2022 classes here.
Of course, if you’re onsite and you want to check available classes—or if you are registered and want to pick up your badge, today… you can see our good folx at the Stitches Registration Desk outside of the Market. The Stitches Registration Desk will be open from 8:00 am-7:00 pm PST.
Note: We might have a few little delays at the registration desk. Our shipment to the show (containing all our supplies) was lost until yesterday afternoon. We should have our supplies in by mid-morning. And we should be running at full speed by the afternoon. We do thank you for your patience.
Tonight will be the Stitches SoCal 2022 Market Preview—from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm PST. Tickets for this preview can be purchased for $15 onsite or online here.
You can download a copy of the Stitches SoCal 2022 Show Book PDF here. You can download a PDF copy of the Stitches SoCal 2022 Market floor map here. And since every exhibitor at this show has their own online show book page, you’ll want to check out those listings here.
The Playground is the heart of the Stitches Market! It’s a place to feel the pulse of what we consider our passion. And the red carpet is no accident; red is a sign of our love of crafting.
In a space that encourages Inspiration, Exploration, and Demonstration, The Playground plays host to artisans and crafters willing to share their work, skills, and advice.
Most of all, The Playground is a place to let the crafty child within you dream, experience…and yes, play!
During the Market we will have lots of cool stuff happening in The Playground! Tonight we have two programs…
- 5:45 pm and 6:45 pm: Why we love Half-double Crochet with Elaine Rowley and Rick Mondragon: a preview from In the Stitches Studio.
- 6:15 pm and 7:15 pm: Reasons for Knitting Back and Forth with Elaine Rowley and Rick Mondragon: a preview from In the Stitches Studio.
Although not in the Playground, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sonya Philip of 100 Acts of Sewing will being giving a tour, doing book signings, and giving demos in Booth 517.
There are no other in-booth demos scheduled for Thursday night.
Tonight, after the Market Preview, at 8:30 pm PST, Franklin Habit will be giving a presentation titled, Paris: The Fabric of a City. Join beloved American expat and Paris resident Franklin Habit as he gives you an insider’s view of how the city (and the nation) are seeking to preserve noble textile traditions while also innovating to survive in the modern world.
If you haven’t purchased your ticket to this presentation, they are available at the Student Registration Desk or online here.
If you are looking for a guide to the local restaurants, you can download a useful PDF created by the city called Food on Foot; A Guide to Walkable Dining Locations Near the Pasadena Convention Center here.
And because I’m very interested (and some of you might be), here is what Rick Mondragon will be wearing today.
Polished and sanded Stingray boots.Recycled denim jeans
Hanmer Made shirt
Half-double crochet mitered scarf
and King Mine turquoise and silver bracelet.
We’ll be covering Rick’s clothes & shoes every morning throughout the show.
Here are today’s Market Highlights…
That’s it for now. Don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow morning with another update. In the meantime, please check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The hashtags we’ve seen used so far are #stitchessocal and #stitchessocal22.
I hope you have an amazing, memory-filled weekend!
All my best.
