Description
Sewing your own clothes is satisfying and practical. Drafting your own patterns goes a step further by putting the entire design process in your hands. Cal will teach you how to draft a pattern for a simple, modern, woven top that can easily be customized in a myriad ways. As a shorter, loose-fitting top, it’s a “Boxy Tee”, but make it longer with a bit more ease and in a fabric with good drape like linen, and it’s a “Drapy Tunic”.
If you’ve been wanting to dip your toe in the pattern-drafting pool, this is a perfect intro, and the sewing couldn’t be simpler. This basic T-shirt shape is a lovely “blank canvas” to serve as a pattern foundation for different techniques: piecing, quilting, embroidering, appliqué, dyeing, eco-printing — and it’s also a great style for turning hand-woven cloth into a garment.
In this class, we will take a few body measurements and use them to draft the pattern for a short-sleeved top, with a sleeve-extension option. We will not do any sewing in class, but Cal will talk about how to make a fit sample and adjust the pattern, so that you can proceed with your dream garments!
NOTE: You can use your completed pattern for her Sew a Hand-Stitched Shirt classes at a future STITCHES at Home event!
