Intro to Brioche Knitting

Another fun and successful class! My first try at knitting Brioche a couple of years ago in the round was really challenging and although I was glad to have tried it, I often wore my mistake riddled headband thinking I’d never knit brioche again. Having had a great experience learning a different challenging technique with Xandy at stitches west this year, I felt new inspiration about giving brioche another try. And, I’m SO glad I did! Xandy is a patient and experienced teacher and I felt completely invited into the more daunting steps of this technique. Trusting your teacher is very helpful as you knit your first “rows” for this flat approach to brioche because the working yarn position of front or back or over isn’t obvious or intuitive for awhile. I trusted Xandy through this stage and it worked!!! Perhaps the best part of this class was the thorough mistakes section. We learned many types of mistakes, what causes them and how best to fish them. Not just described — demonstrated! We practiced finding our mistakes and fixing them using our handouts. This gave me the confidence to keep going in the days after our class when I did find myself making mistakes AND I DID find myself FIXING them on my own!! I made many mistakes on this swatch and fixed all of them except one (as a future reference for myself).

This teacher is very good at giving the big picture while at the same time breaking down complex techniques into approachable steps to yield beautiful results. A fabulous class to really open up this beautiful aspect of knitting. Thank you Xandy!!

This class was excellent! I've wanted to learn for a long time and two-hour class in real time with recording was the perfect way for me to get started learning this technique. Xandy is a great teacher and the class was really well paced. I particularly appreciated the great handout provided well ahead of time. That really helped me follow things through the class. I often make a mistake, have to rip out a bit, then get behind. That's ok because I have the recording. It's very hard to balance plodders like me with people who are faster paced. I thought Xandy did a great job with that balancing. In the future, I'd be interested in brioche class for a focused beginner project, like fingerless mitts, or something like that.

Great class! I had tried brioche knitting before but found the intro using two colors of yarn much easier to understand. I would recommend to anyone wanting to get started in brioche knitting.

This is one of the best classes I have taken from Stitches. The handout was excellent. The amount of information exactly fit the time allocated. The teacher was very clear and helpful. I learned a lot in the class. Thanks!
