This class will go through all the basics of sewing in The School of Making by Alabama Chanin style. We will hand stitch a swatch as we talk through all the best practices for an heirloom piece. While we are working, we will also talk about construction, additional resources, and future projects — both TSOM kits and how to plan and make your own project.
The physics of sewing will inform our best practices as we practice running stitch and back stitch. The non-ravel qualities of the cotton jersey used in TSOM garments make it perfect for reverse applique and negative reverse applique, and we will practice both on our sample, learning to cutting away after stitching and fixing “over cuts”.
If you are curious about hand stitching your garments or already have a TSOM kit, this class is perfect for you!
