Stacked stitches are an innovative approach to striped colorwork, best known as the technique behind the Fox Paws pattern. Stacks can add shaping, create 3D texture, or replace short rows, and when combined with stripes, they create intricate motifs without unsightly strands on the wrong side of your projects. You’ll never need to manage more than one color at a time or worry about bobbins because stacked stitches bend rows of garter stitch into new shapes and patterns using only increases and decreases.

This introductory class will enable knitters of all levels to try out the technique in a swatch and become confident working patterns that incorporate stacked stitches. We will focus on mastering the increase and decrease stitches and learn several strategies for avoiding problems and fixing mistakes.

Special skills or knowledge needed to take this class:
Students should have experience knitting, increasing, decreasing, and reading patterns. Special increases and decreases are taught in class.

A Wonderful Technique and Teacher

I loved this class -- Xandy Peters was clear and fun to follow as they taught us this phenomenal technique. The pacing was great. The true test, though, is when my co-workers ask me what I did over the weekend, and I show them my class samples on Zoom. Generally they try not to yawn, but when I showed them my completed Stacked Stitches sample, they were astonished, and they still ask about it. So win-win-win!

Stacked Stitches

Xandy is a wonderful instructor. Very organized with great handouts. I would have liked one more hour as it take a while for things to click for me. I took this to help me with the fox paws scarf.

This class was very well organized. The instructor was quite capable and explained the content very well. Everything was understandable. This will be a challenging technique to try.

Can't wait to try this

Not for the faint of heart or when the TV is on, but I can't wait to try this fantastic design motif on a garment or scarf.

Great workshop by great instructor

I loved this workshop - it was perfectly paced and instructions were clear and understandable even though I had never knitted stacked stitches. I am now so excited by the process that I have knitted two scarves using the technique and can’t wait to explore it further. Xandy was fun and incredibly knowledgable and I have signed up for her expanded Stitches workshop offered next month. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn this creative and beautiful new (to me) skill!

Necessary first step toward Fox Paws

Like a lot of people, I've thought about tackling the Fox Paws pattern, but been really scared. This class was the perfect first step. She goes over the concept of stacked stitches, explaining how and why they work, and also covering how to handle typical mistakes. I feel much better equipped to handle these kinds of patterns now.

Xandy is an excellent teacher who is able to break down the technique mechanically so a student can understand how it works. I felt like I had mastered the basics well. I would take more classes from Xandy anytime.
