Description
This workshop is ideal for those who want to explore Fair Isle design but are hesitant about starting from scratch. In this class you will work with a classic Fair Isle tam pattern and pre-selected 8-color set so you won’t have to worry about choosing colors!
Janine will begin by discussing the distinctive way that color is arranged in Fair Isle knitting. You will make a value swatch, and then use your colors to swatch several different arrangements of the large motif. Each colorway can produce many options for knitting the motif.
We will go on to explore designing the Corrugated rib and peerie bands and swatch these elements.
Janine will cover designing the tam’s wheel, then explain how the skills you’ve learned will translate into designing a traditional Fair Isle sweater or vest. At the end of class, you will have a solid foundation in Fair Isle design, a unique tam pattern (the kit has enough yarn to knit at least 3 different tams), and a good basic understanding for working with color value in other Fair Isle adventures.
Special skills or knowledge needed to take this class:
Must have experience in stranded knitting and in reading knitting charts.
A kit is required for this class; the $63 kit fee will be collected during class by your teacher.
The kit will include 7 balls of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift yarn (25g/115yds) and 1 mini skein (21 yards). Correct change is appreciated.
