Tapestry is a wonderfully creative medium requiring little in the way of overhead to get started. Besides being an outlet for creativity, tapestry weaving also uses up odd bits of yarn!

Description
Learn how to warp a simple frame loom. Discover the importance of tension and edge control and become familiar with the terminology of weaving tapestry. Beginning with how to separate the warp threads, we will cover techniques such as simple horizontal stripes, vertical stripes and spots, blocks of color, curves, and diagonals. We will also discuss warp and weft choices, sett, materials sources, and finishing methods.
A $30 kit is required and will be collected during class.
Kit will include Stretcher bars for making frame loom, warp yarn, weft yarn, weaving needles, shed sticks (craft sticks), and beater (hair pick).

I enjoyed the class, learning how to replicate some of the shapes I've seen in tapestry rugs and other things for a long time. One thing to know is that the vocabulary is different from other fiber arts, so if you are collecting your own supplies, the "twine" is more like crochet cotton or fingering/sport weight cord. I made a mistake in obtaining supplies and paid for it in a poor result (shown in photo, but you can see I was getting the hang of some basic patterns), but since have re-warped with a different item and really feel that I understand how to make something useable. Learning the basics of how to create a cartoon and stitch to match is fascinating.Customer Reviews
