Buttons are the perfect closure for knits. But where to place them and how to size buttonholes and bands to accommodate them can be a mystery.

Fear no more! Here is the HOW to make knitted buttonholes like a pro and the WHERE, WHEN, and WHY for selecting, planning, sizing, placing, and spacing buttons.

You will create two viable, button-band samples in class. You also have the option of creating a third buttonhole. You will also learn two or more variations for larger buttons. The practical applications will put the theory and rules into action. You’ll learn considerations for changes should you choose to add, adjust, or rearrange your closures on any pattern. As a bonus, you’ll learn how to calculate the perfect ribbing, no matter where it is. The comprehensive handouts contain information and charts that guide you through every step.

Special skills or knowledge needed to take this workshop:
Basic-to-intermediate knitting skills, including how to increase (MK1); decrease (SSK and K2tog); yarn-over; do a cable caston; and knit into the front and back of a stitch.

Excellent Presentation

This class was very well presented and had a very detailed handout. The technique for determining the number of stitches for button and buttonhole bands was given in detail using math that would work for any garment. She also gave us detailed instructions for buttonhole placement. In addition to the detailed handout there were several garment samples. This is a technique I’ll definitely be using in the future.

The class was very informative, and the instructor was very responsive and helpful with questions. She shared some of her personal designs that were pieces of artwork! Lecture time was about 50% of the class, and the rest of the time spent helping people with their specific issues and looking at different types of buttons. Course description should make that clear.

Great presentation

This class was packed with information. She presented 3 different techniques for buttonholes. One of which will be used in my next sweater! Her instructions were clear, she presented plenty of examples and she inspired us. I would attend any of her classes again.

Well documented. Excellently taught. Formulas for picking up stitches for vertical bands was super and I will use them from now on.
