Class sessions will be recorded and remain accessible online to registered students of the class for 14 days following the event.

Stacked stitches are an innovative approach to striped colorwork, best known as the technique behind the Fox Paws pattern. Stacks can add shaping, create 3D texture, and replace short rows. When combined with stripes, they create intricate motifs without unsightly strands on the wrong side of your projects. You will never need to manage more than one color at a time or worry about bobbins because stacked stitches bend rows of garter stitch into new shapes and patterns using only increases and decreases.

This workshop will enable knitters of all levels to try out the stacking technique in a swatch and become confident working patterns that incorporate it. In the first two sessions, we will master the increase and decrease stitches, practice strategies for avoiding problems and fixing mistakes, and learn about the different heights of stacked increases and decreases in preparation for more complex patterns. There is time to experiment with modifying the basic swatch instructions, discuss simple ways to add shaping to our swatches, and try out a few ideas. We’ll also discuss our color choices as a group and learn about using color in stripe patterns.

The Fox Paws Wrap is known for its iconic, interlocking stripe pattern and has the reputation of being a challenging but rewarding project. In the third session, we will build on our basic knowledge of stacked stitches and color theory and start a Fox Paws swatch in class. Working row by row, you will see how each stripe fits together; try different approaches for checking your work and fixing any problems that arise; and practice weaving-in yarns at the end of each stripe to save time during finishing.

By the next weekend, everyone will have at least one repeat of the Fox Paws pattern done. Together, we will take a look at each other’s work and learn how to fix any mistakes that have come up. In the final session we will work on our full projects or branch out into improvised motifs as we discuss modifying existing stacked stitch patterns and creating new ones. You will learn formulas for 3 essential motifs and how to scale them up or down to work with different stitch counts. Experimentation is encouraged!

Loved it!---highly recommend!

Excellent class--well worth the investment! The clear explanations, demos, and pro tips were extremely helpful (and applicable to other projects as well). Xandy is a brilliant designer and equally talented instructor. The teacher's patience, organization and sense of humor made this class a pleasure. Fox Paws is a complex piece requiring fairly advanced techniques which could potentially make it frustrating to knit. However, this in-depth extended class allowed for plenty of time to absorb the information, learn the techniques required to produce a beautiful piece, and ample time for questions. Xandy is very generous with sharing expertise, troubleshooting challenges, and providing guidance in all aspects of the project. I am particularly grateful that Xandy and Stitches offered this class virtually as it provided me extra time to mentally process (and practice) the material. It was a wonderful experience and I'm so excited about my Fox Paws. I now feel that I have the confidence, skill set, and peace of mind to successfully complete this project and enjoy the process.

Wonderful experience

I loved this class! The extended set of sessions offered over a week allowed for practice time with opportunities for questions and problem solving with the instructor that was so helpful for my learning process. Xandy Peters is a fabulous and gifted teacher. The pace of the class was perfect and the level of complexity perfectly met my needs as i progressed in my proficiency. Xandy was fun and so skilled in this method which she developed. She was generous in sharing tips and tricks and helped all of us to be successful. Thank you so much for offering this class!

Great class!

Xandy did an excellent job with her demonstrations. The swatch was a great learning tool, and all her tips and tricks will be useful when I do a full project.

Amazing class!

This class is great, Xandy is a great teacher, who explain very well each step and give you severals recommendations to achieve the technique. I love the pattern, is challenging at first but very fun when you understand the logic behind it. I highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to learn something new.

So glad I took this class.

Xandy is an outstanding teacher and brilliant designer. I purchased a kit to make Fox Paws several months ago, but never started the project as it seemed beyond my skill level. Xandy took us through the pattern in great detail, taught us how to do stacked increases and decreases and gave countless tips to make this project and others a success. My scarf is now well underway and I couldn't be happier with the class. I'm also excited to try some of the design techniques and color choice ideas I learned. Thank you, Xandy, for a great experience!
