Sweater design involves math. A lot of math. Which is exactly what spreadsheets excel at. (See what I did there?) We’ll start by reviewing some of the math we use to draft a sweater pattern, then move those formulas to an Excel or Google Sheet spreadsheet that will do the calculations. You’ll create your own high-powered “calculator” that will enable you to grade for multiple sizes at once, double- check your calculations, convert measurements to metrics, automatically round numbers, and more. Along the way, there will be plenty of discussion about the mechanics of sweater design and sweater shaping. This class is for designers, tech editors, and anybody who uses math in their knitting.

Special skills or knowledge needed to take this workshop:
Some familiarity with sweater design and pattern drafting is helpful.
Knowledge of basic math concepts as they apply to knitting.
Access to Excel, Google Sheets, or any other spreadsheet-like program.

Excellent Class

Edie provided great information and showed us some wonderful and useful tools. She checked in regularly to ask if we had questions, if we were good to keep going or needed something explained again, etc. She provided class notes after each class. The pace was great. I was really happy to learn some new-to-me functions in Excel!
