Learn to work basic Latvian braids and try multiple variations using the technique.

Class sessions will be recorded and remain accessible online to registered students of the class for 14 days following the event.

Description

In this workshop, you’ll learn to create Latvian braids—distinctive twisted bands of stitches—and multiple variations: braids with long floats, clumps of braids, multiple-color braids, and dense layers of braids. You’ll leave the workshop with a host of techniques and inspiration for braiding!

Special skills or knowledge needed to take this class:
Students must know how to work in the round using a circular needle and be comfortable with simple stranded knitting (working with two colors per round).

Supply List
•  Have at least 90 yards each of 5 colors of worsted weight yarn for a five-color or six-color cowl—no need to choose in advance of class! Feel free to use stash and mix and match bases.
• US 7 (4.5mm) 24-inch circular needle

Knitting Basics: Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Stitch markers, Tapestry needles (large and small), Tape measure, Small calculator, Needles and crochet hooks of various sizes

Awesome knitting class

Wonderful class. Ms. weaver is slightly unconventional, in a fun way, but has such enthusiasm and is so generous with information, patient and has a quick, easy smile, puts you right at ease. I was coming down with COVID when the weekend started and ms weaver was the only one of my gazillion classes that I KNOW I saw live. Please bring her back for more classes. She is such a good teacher that I did a little braid research between my lengthy naps after class and watched her again last night before the class expired. Excellent

Super cool effect

Braids, it turns out, are one of those huge-bang-for-the-buck knitting techniques because they're really not that difficult, more fiddly than anything else, but they produce amazing effects. After this class I feel confident adding this embellishment to many designs. The cowl pattern used to teach the class is also fabulous!

So Many Options

This was a good class. She teaches the basics of knitting braids, and then using the class project, a cowl, presents many ways to vary their use. The class was fun and I foresee using braids in future projects.

Great colors so much to learn. Thank goodness for video so I can start and stop do the row and start again. I saw the pattern at the last Stitches west in San Jose and it has been in my to do basket since. Now I am actually doing it. Yeah

Loved this class! the class project is a fun cowl that uses stash yarn. Will make another cowl using my handspun yarn. I will definitely use Latvian braids in my future projects.
