It’s a shame that many knitters aren’t familiar with provisional cast-ons. They permit all sorts of trickery: no-sew hems, scarves with identical ends, seamless underarms in top-down sweaters, and much more. Try a few provisional cast-ons, and find your new favorite.
Provisional cast-ons temporarily secure the cast-on stitches with waste yarn. After working these stitches in one direction, you can remove the waste yarn and reveal live stitches pointing in the other direction. You’ll be surprised by what this lets you do!
In this class, you’ll try a few different provisional cast-ons. Some are faster to work; some are more stable. But since the end goal is to reveal live stitches, it doesn’t matter which you use for a given project – so you can always use your favorite!
