Every stitcher needs at least one needle case! This one, inspired by the work of a mid-20th century needlewoman, Olivia Pass, teaches the four basic stitches of Dorset Button Stitchery. The stitches were originally used to embellish rural workers’ smocks. Here, chain, buttonhole, and single- and double-feather stitches are combined to make lovely motifs. Catherine discusses how to finish the case by hand or machine after completing your embroidery.

You really won’t want to miss the optional kit which includes the design printed on Belgian linen, wool felt for the lining and interior pages, beautiful hand-dyed threads, and needles.

Another wonderful C. Redford Class

This is the third class I have taken that has been taught by Catherine Redford. She is an excellent instructor, enthusiastic and very patient and always willing to demonstrate stitches again. I have found a new love for hand stitching since taking the first class and will keep my eyes open for future classes.

Catherine is a delight. She teaches with energy and enthusiasm. Seeing the neat things other students have made in her classes made me take classes with her and get into embroidery, where I previously thought I would remain only a knitter and crocheter.

She taught us several stitches in the class and I finished my really cool needlecase within a few days of class.

Catherine Redford is delightful. She is organized and easy to follow. She repeats directions cheerfully if there is a question or issue. This is the second class I have taken from her and I plan to take more. I cannot wait to take a class from her in person.
