Creating Swing, Swagger and Drape from Miters
With Jane Slicer-Smith
Feb 5, 7:00pm-9:00pm CST
The humble Miter Square steps into style with Swing, Swagger and Drape styling. Jane shares the design journey and techniques she created to create stunning garments.
Jane Slicer-Smith is well known for her stylish swagger and swing coats. To knit Miters into swagger styles, Jane approached Miter Squares as diamonds, combining decreases and increases to achieve her garment shaping. With each subsequent design, Jane manipulated Miters, working waist down, waist up, plus reducing the needle sizes to support the shoulders with a firmer tension. At the same time Jane has played with stripes and solids to create argyle-like patterning. Follow Jane’s design journey while looking at constructing garments almost totally from Miters. The class includes a knitted sample in Miters, begun as homework before the class. This 2-hour class is semi-lecture with a knitted swatch with full instructions that can be completed after the class.
