Description

Although the origins of tatting are somewhat murky, it is attributed to sailors mending their nets. When fine tatting hit its zenith during the Victorian era, both needle and shuttle tatting were done, but most Victorian ladies wished to show off their ornate shuttles rather than a simple needle.

Most tatting patterns can be used or adapted to the needle technique, and many books are specifically geared to the needle tatter. Should you decide to learn to use the shuttle, you will be ahead of the game since you will understand the terminology and how to read patterns.

Although you will be using a size 3 needle and size 5 perle cotton in class, there are needles available for everything from very fine tatted lace to large-scale.

You will learn both the ring-and-thread and ring-and-chain methods for completing a tatted medallion and go home with several beginner patterns for practicing your skills.

Supply List
• Size 3 tatting needle
• One ball of #5 perle cotton in a light color
• Scissors
• #20 or 22 tapestry needle

Great for Beginners...

I have always wanted to learn Needle Tatting and this was just what I needed. Basic coverage of abbreviations, basic coverage of the motions needed. I have already bought more thread to make more medallions....

Updating a skill

I have learned needle tatting many years ago and remembered it was a lot of tun. Linda Pietz is a good instructor, great voice. and patient. People were at all levels of learning including the second class. I .think I would suggest that she have more than one sample going in several different stages. I like it because I was able to refresh my skills in needle tatting. Thank You to Linda and Stitches ......
