Description

Take a guided tour of the possibilities of center-out accessories. We will look at 3 different cast-on methods for center-out projects and the unique strengths of each method.

After casting on, we will try out different arrangements and types of increases to build different shawl, blanket, and scarf shapes — square or other regular polygon, rectangle, oblong, almond, and the classic circular “pi” shawl.

Many traditional lace and colorwork motifs can be converted to work with these shapes for spectacular results. By the end of the class, students will feel confident using these cast-on methods to create center-out accessories and to add stitch and color patterns to various shapes.

Inspiring!

Xandy takes difficult things and breaks them down into manageable pieces. The handouts were amazing. The possibilities for the techniques were exciting and made you want to pursue a project. I’m going to make the almond shaped shawl. This instructor is a great teacher and very personable.

What you want to know about center out knitting, from the cast on to potential uses

Xandy is an excellent teacher, and I keep taking her classes. This one does not have a specific project associated with the class, and no project patterns, but there are lots of well demonstrated cast on options, and the handout is well illustrated for reference later. Xandy is so calm, supportive, and reassuring. It's hard to teach on the virtual format, where it must feel somewhat like an echo chamber, and she seems to anticipate what a learner wants to know.
