Have you wanted to design your own Fair Isle but felt that confronting the mysteries of complex color interactions was too difficult? This 12-hour workshop walks through a step-by-step process from inspiration to yarn choices to increasingly more specific swatches.

You will begin by identifying the color families in your inspiration. Next you will choose colors from 212 shades of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift yarn and make speed swatches for color. When you have identified color combinations that you like, you will move that information to motif charts and swatch the motifs.

When you are done you will have a solid understanding of how colors and values are used to create the magical Fair Isle effects that draw you to this type of knitting!

There is a required materials fee of $23 that will be collected in class.
Materials fee will cover various yarn.

accurate to course

This class was outstanding. I pride myself on being able to learn skills by reading instructive books, then trying myself with pleasing realist in a large number of fiber arts. However, even after repeatedly reading my several books on Fair Isle Knitting, my attempts were disappointing. This class just walked us down the path of sorting out color and pattern with so much useful information. I have knitted several samples in the week since class and am embarking on my first project. Her repeated demonstration of color interplay and the use of a few simple tools to aid in evaluating them were a huge paradigm shift for me. An excellent course for anyone who wants to dig in and get to the heart of color work in knitting. Though this course was specifically directed at Fair Isle design. The understanding she imparted is useful for the interplay of color for any type of fiber construction.

Best Color Class Ever!

I've taken several classes on color over the years, but this class is the best! Great insights on how to take color inspiration and transfer it to knitting motifs. Now I find myself dissecting the colors in photos, landscapes, and scenes and thinking about how I can incorporate them into my knitting. This class is well worth the time and money for fair isle knitters and others who want to refine their color skills.

Knowledgeable and Generous Teacher

Janine Bajus’s Fair Isle Color class is the best class I’ve had in a long time. She was organized and focused, and led our group in our two day exploration that, in other hands, might have felt overwhelming. She kept herself and the students moving forward to learn her method of identifying colors, testing them and them sampling fair isle patterns. I find more and more classes tend to have long periods of chatting and students feel they are interrupting social interactions if they ask questions, Janine did not get lost in the social chatter, which I highly appreciated. She is generous with her knowledge and supplies. I hope to have other classes with her in the future. I did not walk out of this class with a project ready to go, but with important knowledge and experience that I will tap into for many future projects of my own design.

Great class

I went to stitches for the opportunity to take a class from this instructor and I was not disappointed. I’ve done a lot of color work in quilting and in knitting and feel competent with the concepts but it was just great to have a different look at color and inspiration. I’m so happy I took the class and hope to take more from this instructor.

Great teacher. Very informative.

Lots of hands-on help and opinions offered when requested. Great teacher who really knows the subject. Enjoyed it greatly. Practical and theoretical combined.
